Our Story
In 2002, Scott's humble start was in Fort McMurray, Alberta selling Gull Valley Greenhouse and Doef's Greenhouse produce every Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, April 1 until November 1 each year.
Although Scott loved the service and fresh produce he provided, the amount of driving he was doing was unsustainable. In 2004 the opportunity to be a vendor representing Gull Valley Greenhouse at the Calgary Farmers Market arose, and well, Scott has not looked back.
Fast forward to 2012 when the Calgary Farmers Market moved locations to the South East Calgary, and the delicious produce was flying off the shelves! Scott needed more produce than Gull Valley Greenhouse could offer, so we started bringing in greenhouse produce from Red Cliff Alberta.
In 2015 Scott expanded his market setup to grew to have two stalls at the Calgary Farmers Market, with his second storefront—Tomato Man.
In Spring 2021, Scott decided he would update his brand and level up his online presence to serve his customers better. He moved to a more inclusive name GVG: Gull Valley Growers, to pay homage to his beginnings while allowing him to be more inclusive of other growers.
Scott, Jil, and their three boys have big plans for 2022 as they will be expanding to the new Calgary Farmers Market WEST location, with another two stalls.
Throughout his journey, Scott has had the opportunity to meet and work with innovative and passionate growers and farmers to expand to selling wholesale, grocery stores, and restaurants. He is grateful to get to do what he loves every day and teach his sons the tricks of the trade.
